Immigration Services Agency Invites Public Comments on Proposed Changes to the Requirements for the Status of Residence “Business Manager"

The Immigration Services Agency of Japan announced today (August 26) that it has begun inviting public comments on proposed revisions to the requirements for the “Business Manager” residence status, which applies to foreign nationals establishing businesses in Japan.
The proposed revisions include the following additional requirements:
- Raising the minimum capital/investment amount to 30 million yen (six times the current minimum of 5 million yen)
- At least three years of management experience
- Possession of a master’s degree or higher in a management-related field
- Employment of at least one full-time staff member
The public comment period on the proposed revisions will remain open until September 24, 2025. The amended Ministerial Ordinance on Criteria for Landing Permission under Article 7, Paragraph 1, Item (ii) of the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act is expected to be promulgated in early October and enforced in mid-October.
