Extension of the Validity Period of the Certificate of Eligibility for Myanmar Nationals Due to the Earthquake in Myanmar

Following the earthquake that struck central Myanmar on March 28, 2025, the issuance of Overseas Worker Identification Cards (OWIC) by the Ministry of Labor in Myanmar has been delayed. In response to this situation, the Immigration Services Agency of Japan has announced the implementation of a special measure to extend the validity period of the Certificate of Eligibility (COE) for Myanmar nationals from the standard three months to six months.
This special measure applies to all work-related residence statuses as well as the related “Dependent” status. To be eligible, the COE must have been issued within the past six months, and the individual must hold a valid visa issued by the Japanese Embassy in Myanmar after completing the prescribed visa application procedures.
To maintain the validity of the COE under this measure, the receiving organization in Japan must prepare a document stating that it remains possible to accept the applicant under the same activity details as those stated at the time of the COE application. This document must be submitted to the Japanese Embassy in Myanmar.
